NaPanta
After the suicide of a farmer in his native town, ex-banker V. Naveen Kumar was inspired to help farmers. That being so, Naveen launched NaPanta – a mobile app that provides useful and timely information to farmers.
Intent: NaPanta is a tech solution that addresses the inefficiencies in preharvest management for residue free agricultural produce with market linkages across villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (residues are materials left in an agricultural field after harvesting). NaPanta uses technology to assist farmers with agricultural management and provides timely, essential information, helping farmers to make a decent living whilst creating sustainable agricultural practices.
Idea: Through its free app, NaPanta provides tools for decision-making and agricultural management that bring consistency, dependability and sustainability. NaPanta provides information on soil condition, resource analysis, yield analysis, expense analysis, field condition, marketplace support as well as proving alerts via SMS and farm field GEOtagging through a multi lingual mobile platform. Such insights enable farmers to make planned agricultural decisions with reduced cost, improving profitability and livelihoods.
Impact: NaPanta is growing rapidly with a farmer base of more than 75,000 and 110,000 downloads. It addresses the information asymmetries and communication gap in Indian agriculture.
BVIC Intervention: NaPanta became part of SOCENT when the app was in its pilot and had received a few subscribers and traction. BVIC helped it in streamlining its business model, get connected with adequate funders and investors, and commercialize the app in the most efficient way.
